This evening, I went to Applebees. After eating dinner I was asking God to help me communicate tonight. Communicate the message I had in my heart earlier today.
I was struggling with uncertainty. I told the Lord that if He doesn’t help me, and help me to make it simple that I wouldn’t be able to send the message tonight, it would have to wait until tomorrow.
I started my vehicle… about to pull out from the parking lot. I heard in my heart, “Come at it from love instead of fear”.
This struck me. Gladness and ease came over my soul. I thought to myself, I can do this.
I pulled up to the stop light by Evangel church and Applebees, then I heard in my heart, “This can be simple Jon”.
I exhaled and felt gratefulness in my soul.
I was reminded of something the late Dr. C. Harlan Jacobs, my dear friend, would say…
“Often the perception of a thing is worse than the reality of it.”
Meaning that we often attribute additional meaning, fear, apprehension, and other emotions to an action. We project our inner preset of expectations upon the outcome of a perceived action. We do ourselves a disservice by creating an intricate and often inhibiting view of what is to come. An expectation of a negative end. So often as humans we fear uncertainty. We’d rather take a lesser position that we are certain about, than face the possibility of something far greater… in my example, true vulnerability and transparency, which is a mature stance… instead we freeze with the uncertainty and relent to what is common instead of dare for something potentially profound and yet presently unknown.
I trust… therefore I dare.
I know… therefore I do.
